We had a major milestone with Jacob today. At least I think it was major. We got out Play-Doh, which is one of his favorite things to do and when I told him it was time to clean up and put the Play-Doh away until tomorrow, he did it without fussing or fighting or crying. Usually when he's told he has to stop doing something, he has a major meltdown. I'm so happy and so proud of him. It's funny, b/c it's something that would have seemed like such a small thing to me if another parent had told me about it. It really is the little things that are the biggest deals when it comes to our kids, isn't it?
Jake's actually been really good all day. He was patient with me while I did some major spring cleaning. I took everything out of the master bedroom closet and reorganized it; it looks so good if I do say so myself. I finally got all of my Coaches unpacked and lined up on the shelf so that I can actually change purses and use the "complete wastes of money" as TJ refers to them. I also found a place for my jewelry box (not that I have a ton of jewelry) and my adorable Lantern Moon bowl/basket. I'd really like to put that out somewhere, but I store yarn in it and we had an incident last week with Corky and yarn. It was actually terrifying. He has this terrible habit of eating anything and everything he can find whenever he gets a stomach ache (at least that's why we think he does it as it's a fairly rare occurrence and it doesn't seem to correspond to anything specific); I mean anything: hairballs, dust, q-tips, we usually have to put him in the bathroom and take everything off the floor b/c he'll even try to eat the carpeting in the bedroom. This time, TJ, Jake and I were all taking a nap. I woke up, thank God, with Corky between TJ and myself and while I was going to move him I saw some of my favorite sock yarn (gorgeous shades of orange, red, yellow and white) tangled around him. I thought that he had gotten it stuck around his paw and went to pull it loose. It turned out that he had been eating it; quite a lot of it. I started freaking out and TJ woke up. He pulled it out of Corky's mouth and throat and stomach; in the end there was a good 20 yards or so that we had to pull out of the poor dog, maybe more. I had the hank of yarn divided into two balls and the dog ate more than half of one of them. It's so scary to think about what would have happened to Corky if I hadn't woken up when I did. Needless to say, the yarn is now stored in the closet rather than in baskets around the room to add some color.
So now I'm waiting for TJ to get home from work; he worked late tonight, way late. We're going to take Jake to Steak n' Shake for dinner and ice cream b/c he was such a good boy.
